This is an online novel I have started based on a Leaonard Cohen song called "Famous Blue Raincoat." I stumbled upon a version of this song quite accidentally (the original song was written by Cohen in 1971, and then an array of other artists including Jennifer Warnes and Tori Amos sang it throughout the decades.) The version I first heard was by Joan Baez and in my opinion, the best one so far because of its great instrumentals. If you want to hear the song there is a link to it here.

What really attracted me to the song, aside from it being one of the most beautiful songs I've heard, were the lyrics. They are in a way that can both be sung by a man and (with some minor changes) by a woman. The lyrics are very abstract and hearing them from a man gives them a totally different story than hearing them from a woman. There had been very few songs that had such an effect on me and after a while, I found my conscience absorbing them to give birth to a new story. It nudged me so often that I decided to write it down and post it on my site.

This is a very amateur project and I certainly have no idea what I'm doing. But hopefully, through writing this story, I might be able to unlock the key to the secret meaning of the song and the feelings it brings out in me every time I hear it.

Note: this novel is written based on the female version of the lyrics, which you will find here. The male version (song by Cohen) creates a completely different atmosphere, and hence a different story, which I'm leaving for someone else to write.
