Here are some of the stories I read over the years that had inspired me in ways or I found so good I recommended them to other fans. Please note that although I have posted links to these stories and the sites that archive them , I didn't go through the process of asking permission from all the authors and site owners. I know I should have done that but since I only did this to promote these great stories and sites, I'm hoping there wouldn't be any objections. Still, if there is anyone who doesn't want the link to her/his work being posted here, please contact me and I will remove it immediately.

Please be warned that some of the stories recommended here are of adult nature and might even include material that could be disturbing to some audiences. All adult stories are marked with the word "Adult." Please don't read them if you find such stories offensive.

I have posted the author's contact email along with each story. If you read any of these, and enjoy what you've read, please take a few moments to write to the authors and tell them how you felt about their work. You may have no idea how much a few words of encouragement might mean to a noncommercial writer.

Stories:

. . . A Friend in the Nightcrawler *Adult*

by L. Zephaniah featured on JADFE
Possibly my most favorite Forever Knight story of all times. Nicholas and LaCroix have to come in terms with their relationship and their difficult past. Vachon gets involved and finds out things about Nick, his real nature, and his long and anguished life under LaCroix's rule, that he never could have imagined.
Crossroad by Nancy Kaminski featured on fkfanfic.com
This is the story I recommend to all the non-fans who haven not heard about Forever Knight, but want to learn about it. A forlorn Nicholas tells his life story to a priest, and the reasons why he wants to commit suicide. It recaps his past from the time he was accused of murdering Gwyneth and sent to the crusades, to his conversion, to the present time and the crossroad he has arrived at.
Judgment Night by Jean Graham featured on fkfanfic.com and Jean's site
Jean's short story about what could have happened differently when LaCroix returned into the picture at the beginning of the second season was one of the earliest FK stories I read, and it stayed in my mind for a long time. I always think this story played an important role in making me a fan of the universe.
Ransomed Knight I & II by J.L. Kerr featured on fkfanfic.com
Nicholas is kidnapped by an unknown foe and everyone is trying to save him. It is one of the most famous and most fun stories of the FK universe, with a full third season cast and a lot of good dialogue.
Darkest Memories *Adult* by April Hackett featured on JADFE
It's the time of WWII. Nicholas is rescued from a Nazi's camp where they did experiments on him to find out what he was. "Darkest Memories" is a recovery story that pickes up right after he is back with his family. It makes you want to look for the prequel, which unfortunately doesn't exist.
Crossroads and Possession by Teleri Beaty featured on fkfanfic.com
Although I intended to only mention one story from each author, unless it was a series, I couldn't decide between these two great stories from Telerie Beaty. They both create an amazing picture of a fledgling Nicholas, sad, tormented, and still innocent.
Hunger by Cyndi Bayless Overstreet featured on "a Touch of Forever" fanzine
A great story that is unfortunately not available online (only in zine format.) Circa 1270, Venice, a young Nicholas learns the hard way how it is never a good idea to test LaCroix's authority.
One Night in Byzantium , Byzantium Nights and Dawn in Byzantium *Adult* by Molly "StormBorn" Schneider featured on fkfanfic.com , JADFE and Molly Scheinder's site
Molly's great Byzantium series was my introduction to the world of slash. Young Nicholas learns the basics of lovemaking from the master, in bedroom scenes that seem out of the Arabian Nights. I doubt I would have been hooked on the genre if these stories had been any less masterful.
The Anniversary *Adult* by Katy Deery featured on fkfanfic.com
It's the anniversary of Nicholas' crossing and LaCroix has a special night planned for him. Yet another well told Nick/LaCroix story that is particularly true to their relationship.
Where Demons Go *Adult* by Z.P. Florian featured on Elizabeth Stuart and Friends' Fan Fiction Page
Another 'Sons of Belial' flashback, only better. Nicholas rescues a young boy from the Inquisition but finds himself captive in LaCroix's seductive confinement, a fate he can never escape from, and a place where he can never have any other companions.
As we forgive by Amy K. Rambow featured on fkfanfic.com and Amy's site
Nicholas' thoughts and feeling during 'Last Knight.' Beautifully written and on the note, it is a perfect companion piece to FK's last episode. Do not forget to have Kleenex.
The Hands of Time by Stephen Lansing featured on fkfanfic.com
After the events of Last Knight, a few heads are bound to be turned toward Toronto and the main characters. Not only is the police investigating what happened at the loft, the Enforcers, and Tracy's father Richard Vetter, also, begin to find one guilt-ridden vampire and his strange family, at the center of their attention. Warning: the sequels to this story are not yet posted.
The Phoenix by Nancy W. Bonilla featured on fkfanfic.com
Another good post LK story with an innovative focus on Vachon and Natalie. Natalie finds an injured Vachon on her hands, and through him, finally discovers what happened to her love, Nick, after the events of that fateful night. Great character description and story arc.
Pets *Adult* by Dar Hutson Scally featured on fkfanfic.com and Author's Page
The sequel to another story called "Sipping" by the same author, which is not archived at fkfanfic.com but can be found on the author's page. Although both stories are well written, "Pets" is the one that I like most because of the heart to heart talk between Nick and Nat that reveals fascinating, sad truths about Nick's past and the hardships of life as a vampire.
The Dance Series by Lorelei Sieja featured on Lorelei's site
Perhaps the most famous series in the FK fandom, the Dance Series is a semi-alternative third season that takes off some time after Sons of Belial and goes into unbelievable, entertaining directions. With a full cast of characters from all seasons and possibly every episode (anyone you have seen on the show more than ten minutes is here, except Screed), engaging scenarios, and likable new characters, it's a must read for every FK fan.
Belonging *Adult* by Elfin featured on JADFE and Elfin's page
I like all of Elfin's classic stories, especially her 'Picaso of Pain' series. But I recommend 'Belonging' for two reasons: 1) it's not as extreme as POP (that one demands an acquired taste that not everyone might share), 2) it is the first of her stories that I read, and what made me a devoted fan to her fluent writing and passionate style.
The Bargain *Adult*
by Christine Hunt
featured on fkfanfic.com and JADFE
It is strange for me to recommend a Nick/Natalie story. I wouldn't if this one wasn't absolutely the best. Things have changed, roles are reversed, and still, the lovers are apart and longing for each other. If this story could move me--an obviously non N&N fan-- I can't imagine what it would do to a NNpacker.
Till Death *Adult* by Ophelia5 featured on Ophelia5's Page
Janette comforts Nicholas after Alyssa's death in a way only she can pull off. This is Ophelia's best story as far as I'm concerned. She also has a lot of Nick and Nat stuff too that must be great and that I haven't read. Here, the charm and strange innocence of the two lovers, though both vampires, is enough to take one's breath away.
Beginnings by Cindy Pursell featured only in print
Another one that is not available online (sorry, folks!) Nicholas and Natalie's first interactions, mostly through her eyes. It is the way every woman would feel if they got a lonely, gorgeous vampire as a house guest. Well-written with awesome characterization.
Peerless Pressure
by Susan M. Garrett featured on fkfanfic.com
Everyone who knows FK knows Susan, especially for her long stories and excellent novels. So why am I recommending this little known, short story? Because of one word: originality. You can't just pick one among Susan's many novels and long works. But if you are looking for a first-rate story that shows Nicholas' struggle in his quest for mortality at its height, this is the story to go for.
Sadness, In a Minor Key by Diane Harris featured on Diane's site
Beautiful flashback story about when Nicholas met Beethoven in 1809, and played 'Für Elise' for the first time. Everyone, and it's funny to say that this might even include Herr Beethoven, is flawlessly in character. For those who like sad stories (like moi.)
Behind the Mask by Kathy Whelton featured on fkfanfic.com
A tight, well-written pre-Dark Knight story. Nick and Nat have met not a long while ago and this is the story of their struggle to deal with their strange relationship on all levels, especially that level that requires Nick to go after human blood.
